Q; How does the fan look like?
A: Tipical Installation

Q: Is the fan loud?
A: The RN1 fan is very quiet,(approx. 35 Decibels) not any louder than your bathroom exhaust fan, furnace or air exchanger
Q:Does the exhaust go through the roof?
A: No in Canada (cold climate) we exhaust directly through the exterior or foundation wall.
Exterior Exhaust

Q: Does my sump pump have to be submersible?
A: Yes your pump has to fit under your sealed lid.
Q: Can there be holes in the sump pump cover?
A: No the cover has to be fully sealed to prevent radon from entering your home.

Q: Should I measure for radon even after my mitigation?
A: Yes we highly recommend that you purchase a digital device and continuously measure your radon levels.

Q: How does the radon mitigation system work?
A: 5" hole is drilled into your concrete floor slab in the basement, about 3 to 5 gallons of gravel are removed under the slab to create a larger surface area for the radon fan suction. By creating a suction under the concrete floor slab we are removing the radon gas before it has a chance to enter your home.
Q: What can be done in a crawlspace (no concrete slab, exposed ground)?
A: Yes it is possible. Clean and even out the crawlspace ground. Install a "Delta" membrane and after cover Delta membrane with a reinforced 10-20 mil radon barrier, overlapping the seams and sealing to the foundation wall. This will allow for the ASD (active soil depressurization.
Q: What if there is no gravel under my basement concrete floor?
A: The standard active soil depressurization system will NOT work in this case. There are some options, one of them is using the french drain around the exterior perimeter of the house a s a suction to extract radon.
Q: Radon company performed a connectivity test and they said we can NOT do anything for you. Is there anything else to do?
A: Yes, connectivity test can fail due to other reason than lack of gravel. Understanding the construction process is the key, at Radon Montreal we can help.
Q: Can radon mitigation system be installed on my sump pit?
A: Yes, it is a secondary option as we are creating suction through the French drain on the outside perimeter of the house, it is a highly successful option.
Q: Do I need to seal my sump pit?I have a plastic cover with holes or a piece of plywood.
A: Yes, in order for the radon system be efficient your sump pit should be covered and sealed. That means no stand up sump pump only submersible one. Usually a plexi-glass cover with neoprene gasket, rubber grommets around the pipes and wires, as well as one way drain.
Q: Can the radon fan be installed outside or in the attic? I googled it and they show that it can.
A: No, due to the cold weather in Quebec we can NOT install the fan outside or in the attic. The main reason is the condensation which will cause ice buildup and eventually blockage of the exhaust pipe
